 On Island - Things to know!
Gunhillbay is situated facing the North side of the Atlantic Ocean,
approximately 3+ miles from the eastern tip of Little Exuma, while
overlooking tiny offshore islands. It is approximately 50 feet from the
beautiful, pure white sand of the beach. This beach is extremely secluded,
which definitely adds to its charm. We are positioned approximately 15
miles from neighboring Long Island, where day trips can be arranged
Taxi fare to and from the Villas is included in rental fee. Luther Rolle
will be your designated taxi driver. It is strongly recommended that you
rent a car, as cab fares are excessive. The Villas are situated
approximately 16 miles from Georgetown, which is Exuma’s capital, and for
some, the main center of attraction.
On a typical Bahamian summer day, the water color is unbelievable. The
clarity and range of watercolors are radiant, ranging from crystal clear
to turquoise and varied shades of blues and greens.
Great and Little Exuma lie about 135 miles southeast of Nassau, falling
into the Central Bahamas region, also know as the Family or Out Islands.
The island of Exuma totals approximately 60 miles and is home to around
3,500 friendly, native Exumians. Exuma is a fairly safe and peaceful place
offering many beautiful beaches historic locations and other fascinating
places to explore. Average winter temperature is 70-81 degrees. Average
summer temperature is 82+ degrees.
Exuma offers a very relaxed, casual dress-type environment, not filled
with much nightlife or a typical vacation resort. If you’re looking for a
secluded and romantic getaway, this is the place for you! There are
several small hotels, straw markets, native restaurants, boutiques,
grocery and liquor stores, post office, telegraph station, United Parcel
Service, Bank of Nova Scotia, clinic doctor and dentist, and many churches
of denomination located throughout the island.
The Four Seasons Hotel chain recently opened a five star resort on the
island. It is a 35 mile drive one way from the villas, and offers golf
among other amenities.
Exuma is the home of the Annual Out Island Regatta, which is held in
peaceful Elizabeth Harbor. Exuma is also known for its World Class Bone
Fishing. Local guides can be hired for bone fishing, deep-sea fishing,
snorkeling and scuba diving. Boston Whaler boats are available for rent in
Georgetown from Minns Water Sports.
Exuma International Airport, also know as Georgetown GGT, is your flight
destination. American Eagle flies directly from Miami, Florida, where as
Bahamas Air flies directly from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and from Nassau,
Bahamas. Both airlines operate on different seasonal flight schedules.
There is a $16.00 government departure fee, payable directly to the
airline when departing. Rent cars, jeeps, moped and taxis are available at
the airport and in Georgetown.
